At the same time, issues related to civil aviation security and safety, financing of airports through the Large Infrastructure Operational Program 2014-2020 and attracting European funds for airports through Cohesion Policy in the period 2021-2027 will be discussed.

Last but not least, the evolution of passenger traffic at Romanian airports, the possibilities of attracting new airlines, the role of civil aviation in tourism development and the collaboration between airports, travel agencies, airlines and county tourism organizations will be other topics of analysis. during the RAA meeting “Passenger traffic at Romanian airports exceeded 23 million passengers in 2019, and estimates show that at an annual increase of 4% on average over the next 15 years, passenger traffic will double. In this context, together with the local and national authorities, we must find development solutions, so that the airports in Romania become as competitive as possible in terms of infrastructure and services they offer to passengers and partners, in an international market where the competition is growing.

We also need to think of a strategy for the development of cargo terminals, and European funds can be one of the main sources of funding. Increasing the number of destinations is another goal of airports, and the meeting is also attended by representatives of tourism, so that together we can try to implement best practice models for expanding route networks and tourism development of Romanian destinations, “he said. David Ciceo, President of the Romanian Airports Association and General Manager of Cluj Airport.

“We are honoured and glad that we are the hosts of this meeting of the Romanian Airports Association. It is a new proof that Brasov already has a say in the airport field, through the specialists who deal with the construction of the Brasov – Ghimbav International Airport. We proved that our project is a mature, serious one and a pioneer for the county administrations. The steps taken in 2019 in the implementation of the AIBG project are significant and they assure us the premises that by the end of this year the Airport will be 90% completed. We are not building any kind of airport, but one that will be among the top three nationally, after “Henri Coandă” International Airport and Cluj International Airport, both in terms of the size of the passenger terminal and the length of the runway, take-off-landing “, mentioned the president of the Brasov County Council Adrian-Ioan Veştea.
